Well because ferns don't need to go to bars to pick each other up. They don't even need to meet in order to have sex. They just release spores. Business was bad at the fern bar.
WOW! I must be REALLY old. So-called "fern bars" were upscale bars. You could tell they were upscale because they had plants, like ferns for ambience hence the epithet "fern bar".
