Socks worn with sandals . . . why? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of sandals?

I confess that I've worn socks with sandals. I had a blister and the sock helped keep the band-aid from coming off. But it wasn't in public, just around the house.

I have always wondered about that myself. My son wears socks with his sandals. He has feet that are hard to fit into shoes and he finds sandals a lot more accomodating, but he also want to keep his feet warm, so he wears socks. I guess that could be other people's reason too. I myself don't care for it though, because his socks get SO DIRTY!

One would think it would defeat the purpose. I am guilty of this at times. Like when I was remodeling my kitchen in the middle of July last year, it was too hot for sneakers, yet not too safe for sandals. So I wore sweatsocks with my Nike strappy/velcro sandals. Of course, I should add, I'd never been seen in public that way.

Absolutely, not to mention it looks......a little too geeky for my taste.
