I found myself using the expression "More (noun) than you can shake a stick at". Why would anyone want to shake a stick at something?

I dunno. Maybe cause you couldn't find a finger to shake? Or a magic wand to wave?

That means that there are so many *something* that shaking a stick at them wouldn't be sufficient to get rid of them/scare them off.

Good question. I guess we could also replace stick with fist?
